Hey! Sam here!

We are really excited to be sharing this with the world.

For the past four years this was a private thing: sketchbooks full of strange creatures, cramped notes, and half-formed ideas. It lived quietly in unorganized papers and in pockets of time between work and life. Drawing was how the idea kept breathing.

Now we’re trying to turn those pages into a game.

Guillermo and I co‑founded Midnight Folk to give this project a home. I focus on design, art and animation and Guille handles the more technical side of things. We’re small and deliberate, the kind of team that values making things with care over moving fast for its own sake.

Our debut game is a hand‑drawn, action‑focused roguelike, with runs that constantly change in a world turned upside down by an infected alien invasion. The tone is offbeat and weird; the systems are meant to be tight and responsive. Right now that’s deliberately vague because we’re still finding the best way to express the core of the game.

What to expect from this development log:

  • Sketches and concept art, with notes on why things exist.
  • Short prototype clips and clear explanations of what changed and why.
  • Problems we hit and the solutions we try.
  • Occasional deeper dives into game design, art, etc.
  • Conversation with followers of the project (feel free to get in contact).

We want to document that process honestly, not super polished marketing, but the messy steps between a sketch and something that moves under your control. If you’re curious about the craft or the slow build of a handmade project, this is where we’ll put that.

Right now, we have a small prototype that moves and feels like the start of something. It’s rough, hand‑drawn, and imperfect and we’re iterating on it. Over the coming devlogs we’ll post footage, explain decisions, and share what’s worth keeping versus what needs to be thrown away.

If you want to follow along, stick around. We’ll keep updates short and practical, and we’ll show the parts that actually teach us something about the game.
